Nearly half a million adults are sexually assaulted in England and Wales each year. 1 in 5 women aged 16 - 59 has experienced some form of sexual violence since the age of 16.
Approximately 85,000 women and 12,000 men are raped in England and Wales alone every year; that's roughly 11 adult rapes every hour.
The number of rapes recorded by the police more than doubled between 2010/11 and 2015/16, the CPS conviction rate in 2015-16 rose to 57.9% from 56.9% in 2014-15 and the proportion of rape prosecutions cases that result in jury acquittal rose steadily between 2010/11 and 2014/15 reaching more than 1 in 5. Rape Crisis Centres responded to 202,666 helpline calls during 2016/17 - that's nearly 4,000 calls a week
This is why the Northern TUC have revived the tradition of Reclaim the Night. All women have the right to use public spaces both in the daytime and after dark without the fear of sexual harassment and assault.
Join women around the world to mark the United Nations International Day to End Violence Against Women - and take back your night.
